Total Undergraduate Seats: 390
(i) 50% (195 seats) are reserved for candidates qualifying from the state in which the institute is located
(ii) 50% (195 seats) are reserved for the other candidates based on the population of the respective state, which is decided by MHRD, Govt. of India.
(iii) The reservation policy of the Central Govt. was followed in nominating the students from S.C /S.T. categories.
(iv) Few seats (decided by Ministry of Foreign affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi) are reserved for the students of foreign nations, which are nominated by ICCR, New Delhi.
Examination Process
(i) The institute is having semester pattern of Examination at UG & PG levels.
(ii) Under the Semester system, the teachers themselves set the mid-term & end-term question papers & evaluate them.
(iii) They conduct quiz & class tests for teacher's evaluation. The mid-term examination carries 30 marks, teacher's evaluation 20 & the end term examination carry 50 marks.
(iv) The students are awarded letter grades from Excellent (Ex) to fail (F) depending on their over all performance.
(v) The results are assessed by either the Under Graduate program Evaluation Committee (UGPEC) or Post Graduate Evaluation Committee (PGPEC) & then sent to the Senate for approval.
(vi) The students have to maintain a CGPA of 6.0 to continue beyond their first year of study.
Supplementary examinations are organized in the summer quarter.
Admission Procedure at NIT, Jamshedpur
Admission for B. Tech Course:
Out of total 280 seats in this institute, 50% (140 seats) are reserved for candidates qualifying from the state in which the institute is located and rest 50% (140 seats) are reserved for other states candidates which is decided by MHRD, Government of India. Out of 140 seats for state, 105 seats are allotted to the students of Bihar and rest 35 seats are allotted to the students of Jharkhand according to the agreement made between the two states on the principles laid by of Government of India, New Delhi.
The 105 seats allotted to students of Bihar are filled on the basis of the results of the AIEEE entrance examination.
The students are selected on the basis of rank of the entrance examination .
The 35 seats for the students of Jharkhand are filled on the basis of the scores of the AIEEE entrance examination; The students are selected on the basis of results of the entrance examination.
A few seats are reserved for the students of foreign nations.
Post Graduate Course:
M. Tech. students are granted admission on the basis of their GATE score and their results in a screening test. Interview is conducted by the Institute.
Students are admitted to the MCA program based on their scores at AIMCET and scores in a screening test. Interview is conducted by the Institute.
PHd course:
The admission is governed by the following factors
Overall academic results. Weightage 70
Tests and interviews conducted by the institute. Weightage 30.
