(A) Post Graduate Diploma Course of Associateship of National Sugar Institute in Sugar Technology (on merit basis of written entrance examination). Qualification: B.Sc with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Or Bachelors degree in chemical engineering having secured minimum 45% marks in aggregate, provided that in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes minimum marks will be 40%. Duration: Two and a half academic years.
(B) Post Graduate Diploma Course of Associateship of National Sugar Institute in Sugar Engineering (on merit basis of written entrance examination). Qualification: Degree in Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering OR equivalent qualification in Mechanical OR Electrical branch only. Duration; One and a half academic years.
C) Post Graduate Diploma Course in Industrial Fermentation and Alcohol Technology. Qualification: B.Sc. with Chemistry as one of the subject with one year experience in a distillery/brewery as on 31st March. Experience is counted from day after the date of issue of B.S.c marks-sheet and up to 31st March. Duration: One academic year followed by four months practical training in a distillery/brewery.
D) Certificate Course in Sugar Engineering. Qualification: (i) Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering of a recognised technical
school/college OR Polytechnic (ii) One year experience as Asstt. Engineer in a Sugar Factory OR Two years experience in Supervisory capacity in a Sugar Factory. Experience is counted from the day after the date of issue of Diploma marks-sheet. Duration: Two Off-Seasons (July to November).
E) Certificate Course in Sugar Boiling. Qualification: Matriculate in Science/Agriculture with one seasons Sugar Boiling experience in a Vacuum pan sugar factory. Duration: One Off-Season.
F) Pre Harvest Cane Maturity Survey Certificate Course: Qualification: Intermediate with Science or equivalent with two year experience in a sugar factory Laboratory or field work. Duration: One and a half month.
G) Fellowship of National Sugar Institute By Research: (i) F.N.S.L in Sugar Technology (ii) F.N.S.L in Sugar Chemistry.

Note: Application for F.N.S.L in Sugar Technology & Sugar Engineering Should either be sponsored/Nominated by a Sugar factory for carrying out the research work pertaining to this course. Similarly application or F.N.S.I in fermentation Technology should be sponsored by a distillery/ or Brewery for carrying out the research work pertaining to this course. In case the application is not duly sponsored it would be rejected.
Duration: For (i) to (iii) three off-season of four months each or one year
at a stretch followed or preceded by practical training for two cane
crushing seasons in sugar factory. For (iv) One year.
Candidates have to furnish the nomination form applications, as prescribed
by the Institute.
Reservation: In each course 15% of the seats are reserved for SC and
5% for ST candidates. If the number of candidates belonging to either of
the communities are not adequate to fill up the seats reserved for them
it will be filled by candidates belonging to either community to the extent
available. If the number of candidates belonging to both communities fall
short of the seats reserved for them, the remaining seats are provided to
General candidate.
(ii) Reservation is also made available in each course for
(a) the candidates belonging to rural areas
(b) Children of defence personnel either serving or retired or have died while in service.
Age: The maximum age of candidate for the purpose of admission to the various courses is 35 years as on July 31st.
Admission to A.N.S.I. (Sugar Technology) and A.N.S.I. (Sugar Engineering) courses is made on the basis of admission tests conducted at four centres
namely Kanpur, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. These tests are held sometime in the month of June. For rest of the courses selection is made on the basis of interview held at Kanpur during July.
For A.N.S.I. (Sugar Technology) written test is conducted in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, each paper having maximum marks of hundred and three hours duration of B.Sc. standard. For A.N.S-I. (Sugar Engineering) written test is conducted in one paper of maximum 100 marks and three hours duration (two sections of equal marks one of Mechanical Engineering and the other of Electrical Engineering). Candidates have the option to write the answers in either English or Hindi but all questions should be answered in one language only.
