The SKUAST of Jammu inherited few assets and staff deployed at various stations and sub stations from erstwhile SKUAST (J&K) to carry on the mission of agriculture research and development. The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, J & K was established in the year 1982. The problems of Jammu region are location specific in research on crops, pulses, fruits, oil-seeds, vegetables, agriculture, species of livestock and poultry.

The university provides a Central Library also. It has an excellent library system and inter campus infrastructure and other practical training avenues. The university is a Kind of Public University. University libraries have about 50,000 book accessions; 20,000 Journals (back volumes) and 10,000 Reports. The Library Information System has been enriched with world’s leading agricultural databases The University has come to be recognised as one of the most respected seats of learning.
