Complementation map Agene map in which each mutation is represented by a line or 'bar' that overlaps the bars for other mutations with which it will not complement. Non-complementing mutants are represented by overlapping, continuous lines. Each bar probably rep¬resents the region of the 'polypeptide that is distorted by an amino-acid substitution.
Complementation maps are usu¬ally linear, and the positions of mutants on the complementation and genetic maps usually accord.
