Composite Species Concept An attempt, by Dina Kornet, to define "species cladistically and to formalize the concept in the fossil record. A species, in this definition, is a segment of a lineage in which a new 'character state becomes fixed, from the point where it arises (by 'cladogene-sis) to the point where a new lineage (in which another character state becomes fixed) arises by cladogenesis.
