Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was established in 1876. The institute attained the status of a college in the year 1903 (01.10.1903) The University of Madras also recognized the college as a centre for postgraduate education. The college was then academically affiliated to Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in 1974 and became a constituent unit of TNAU in 1976. It needs emphasis that in recognition of the University’s credentials, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has accredited this university for a period of five years from 14.8.2001.

Hostel  
The students will be accommodated in the hostels to the extent possible, as only limited facilities are available. A sum of Rs. 5000/- will be collected as hostel deposit.The university provides Hostels. Hostels for the students are available in each campus and the messes are run on a dividend system. 

Library  
It started with a small collection of books mainly transferred from Madras Veterinary College, Chennai and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.The MVC library had a humble beginning and over these 100 years its growth has been phenomenal and transformed from “book-only” library to modern “digital library”. The Library was established on 02.01.1987 soon after inception of the institution in Namakkal.
